About Mobile Biochar Systems

Our Vision

Cost-Effective Solutions

Cost-Effective Solutions

To introduce people to biochar and how to make it at their scale.

We see biochar production as a tool for organic waste management solutions.

Customer-Centric Support

Our dedicated team will train you with hands-on operational guidance for a clear understanding of biochar production using the Maine Kiln.

Customer service means we are a connector, an open and transparent educator and a supporter of the biochar industry.

Waste is not Waste until you Waste it

Waste is not Waste until you Waste it

Pyrolysis is a simple process with big payoffs.

To operate the Maine Kiln, simply gather your organic biomass, dry it, size the biomass and begin filling your reactors. Lastly roll them into the kiln for biochar production.

Our Story

In 2019 Kevin Bernard founded the first cannabis waste disposal service in Maine. Cannawaste Recycling had a mission to divert mountains of cultivator biomass from the dumpster every day and he began researching biochar technology as a viable waste management solution.

Out of necessity to meet the cannawaste volumes, Kevin fabricated a 2 barrel retort kiln recycling an old  heating oil tank and two used 55 gal barrels.  We quickly learned this was not going to work and a more durable design was needed.

We designed and fabricated our first 4 barrel mobile biochar prototype for proof of concept and founded Local Biochar.

For the next 2 years, we tested our biochar kiln for performance, durability and biochar quality.  Any structural failures of the first generation prototype became a series of design improvements for the 2nd generation prototype branded the Maine Kiln.

Being a startup company it was important joining the growthcraft startup community for the many resources and advisory help for every step in my business development.

From Growthcraft.org I was introduced to the Just co-op.  We fine tuned the engineering for product development with burn efficiency research.

In 2025 we decided to rebrand the company name local biochar to Mobile Biochar Systems inc in an effort to send a clear message that we are a mobile biochar systems manufacturing company today there are 2 units and counting out in the field as part of our testing research program for kiln performance and we want to be your organic waste solution.
